Glamping in Somerset

We started the summer holidays in a mad rush, setting off as soon as Nickie finished work. This meant I was in charge of getting the car loaded, and nervously testing out the new Tow Bar, and Thule Bike Rack. Excited to get these all set up so we could all take our bikes, and get some riding in. 5 hours later we arrived at Burton Springs in Somerset. We stayed in Bayleys Rest, a family sized pod beside one of the fishing lakes, nice and quiet in the middle of nowhere.

Day 1: After we all get over the shock of me cooking, check it out, I got the firepit up and running for breakfast, Sausage sandwiches all round. We set off for the nearby attraction of "Wookey Hole". Home to the "World Famous Wookey Hole Caves", set deep in the heart of the Mendip Hills, it is the UK’s largest cave system. Yep, I'd never heard of them either ;-) Off we go into the cave system, it's cold and damp but the boys are happy with their glowsticks. Unfortunately we struggle to hear any of the tour or see where the guide is shining his torch, due to the number of people in our group.

It doesn't bother the boys though, and the views are all pretty impressive (especially the cheese store caves where they age the Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar).

Back out into the sunshine and we're in the Valley of the Dinosaurs, pretty impressive new feature for this year with Animatronic Dinosaurs.

Here there's picnic areas, woodland walk, fairy gardens, oh and a giant King Kong. The boys have their photos taken with him as that is what they call their grandad "Dar", the likeness is uncanny ;-)

We explored the Mirror Maze, the hall of Mirrors, 4D Cinema showing of "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs", and Gerry Cottle’s famous Wookey Hole Circus School, which is local young performers. We wander round the Museum, the Penny Arcades, relax and have lunch in the cafe while the boys let off some steam in the Indoor softplay.

To end the day off at Wookey Hole we have a game of crazy golf, have ice cream and pulled funny faces...

On the way back to camp we call in at Cheddar, yep where the cheese gets it's name from. Had great food at the Bath Arms. the food was sooo nice and the service great, and it takes a lot to impress me with service. We must come back and stay here sometime.
